Nathan Henshaw

Free Improvisation is a great musical tool to help develop ensemble skills and for writing compositions. The main difference between Jazz Improvisation and Free Improvisation is just that.....it is free of any musical constraints (and limited by your imagination). Being a performer of improvised music, Nathan has developed a method for teaching the basic fundamentals to help musicians understand this musical concept and embrace it as a useful tool.

He offers group workshops which give a simple and detailed breakdown of how Free Improvisation works and have the participants involved in short group improvisations based on the concepts of music. Although students may not use this skill, they always enjoy the experience of creating while exploring new musical possibilities with their peers. It has also proven to be an effective tool for composition - particularly for the HSC music student where they may not have had experience composing music.

Nathan's improvisation workshops are tailored to the needs of the students involved (school or tertiary students) and can easily be tailored to fit into any course curriculum (e.g. the concepts for music for school students).

Cost: The fee for improvisation workshops varies depending on its duration, travel and any particular special requirements. Please send an email to Nathan with your needs and he'll discuss the details and send a quote for the workshop.
