HSC music students have to look at music written in the last 25 years with an Australian focus as their mandatory topic. They need to research who each of the concepts of music work within a composition and they also need to be able to compare with other core topic works. There are many works which fit this criteria but music teachers have a hard time keeping up with new repertoire. Nathan offers a HSC workshop that looks at this particular topic. These workshops explore particular works of music (saxophone works) which are fun and interesting to research as well as offer similar repertoire suggestions for other instruments. Being an advocate for new music, Nathan has had considerable experience working with composers in compositional workshops and has extensive knowledge of the instrument. Many new saxophone compositions have been written without consulting a performer about the capabilities of the instrument and this in turn has resulted in works which are unplayable for saxophonists. To help you with your composition, Nathan will offer advice and suggestions in direct consultation with you (the composer). Having a broad technical knowledge of all of the saxophone family (including extended techniques) he can help you create a playable composition which will still stay true to your original musical intentions. Nathan is also available to record your compositions.
