January 2012
Happy New Year to you all!
It's only a few days into 2012 but it's already shaping up to be a exciting year! If you haven't already noticed, I've been busy updating my website and adding a few additions (such as recent recordings, videos, updated content - commissioned works). Please take the time to have a look around and check out the new content.
Coming up this month, Nathan will be performing West Side Story with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra as part of the 2012 Sydney Festival (27th-28th January).
Also coming up is the annual Saxophone Academy Sydney's Saxophone Summer School (16th-20th January). During the week, Nathan will be tutoring students with a team of Australia's most renowned saxophonists (Jay Byrnes, Ben Carey, Andrew Smith, Nic Russoniello) with special guest tutor - Christina Leonard. As part of the summer school, each of the tutors will be giving a recital at the end of each day. In his recital, Nathan will be performing a contrasting program that will feature a newly comissioned work from Martin Kay - Threpanning Sonata for tenor sax and piano.
The biggest news of the year so far has been the restructuring of the Nexas Quartet. After nine years one of our founding members, Ben Carey, decided to leave the ensemble in order to pursue other performance interests. As one of our close mates, we wish him all the best in his future musical endeavours and hope to collaborate with him in some future project. The position left has been aptly filled by renowned Australian saxophonist Michael Duke.
The new line-up has brought about a renewed vitality to the ensemble and consequently has led to many new and exciting performance projects, collaborations and intensive recording projects currently under development. The first of these will be our premeire performance for our 2012 season which will be on Australia Day (26th January).

Hope you all have a wonderful 2012 and hopefully will see you at one or more of my upcoming events!
